Cultures of Namibia SCS C14 (14 Days)

Day 1:
From Windhoek our drive takes us past the small town of Rehoboth and through communal farmland of the Rehoboth Baster. Continue over the Spreetshoogte pass into the Namib Desert and through the Kuiseb Canyon.

Day 2:
Today we will make contact with the local “Desert” Namas and the “Topnaars” and visit the villages Mirabib and the research centre Gobabeb. Here in the desert one might see some oryx, ostrich, zebra, and springbuck.

Day 3:
Through the Namib Desert past the Welwitchia plain and the Moonlandscape our journey takes us to the Spitzkoppe, a granite rock which we explore on foot.

Day 4:
Early departure into the Damaraland for visits to the interesting sights of the Burnt Mountain and Organ pipes. Guided hiking trail to the famous rock engravings of Twyfelfontein.

Day 5:
Drive through Damaraland with visits to typical Damara villages and settlements, up to the Khowarib gorge.
Camping here in the wilderness.

Day 6:
Via Sesfontein our drive takes us through the mountains up to Kaoko Otavi. Here we will make first contact with the nomadic Himba tribe, unique to the Kaokoland. However some Herero families, settled over the past, live here as well.

Day 7:
After breakfast we visit a typical Himba village. Afterwards drive further north into the Kaokoland until we reach the Kunene River, the border between Namibia and Angola.

Day 8:
Drive through Ovamboland, with visits to a Ndonga or Kwanyama “kraal”.
Camping in the Etosha National Park, at Namutoni.

Day 9/10:
Exit the park and visit the Hedwigslust bushmen farm. Here it was made possible for Khoi-San Bushmen to make a living in a commercial world. Continue to Tsinsabis to the Farm Muramba. On a hiking trail an expert on Bushmen will show you how they make a living by collecting their food “Veldkost” and their specially adopted hunting methods.

Day 11/12:
Drive into Bushmanland to Sigarethi. Only a few Bushmen are still living here in Tsumkwe. On game drives through thick Kalahari dune sand in the Khaudom Game Reserve, one can view a variety of antelopes, zebras, some predators and hyenas. Here it seems one has reached the end of the world.

Day 13:
Via Grootfontein on the way back we get to the Waterberg Plateau Park.

Day 14:
In the early morning with the sun rising, a hike up the mountain is worth a while. The park offers a large variety of birds and wildlife. On the way back to Windhoek we visit the local woodcarvers markets in Okahandja. Arrival at approximate 14h00 in Windhoek.

Inclusive:
Three meals a day, sightseeing and entrance fees as mentioned in the itinerary, experienced English-speaking guide and personnel. Accommodation in a double igloo tent, (single igloo tents available on special request). Transport in a specially designed Mercedes Unimog – Safari bus or Toyota Land Cruiser (for groups smaller then 5 persons), fully equipped with camping gear.

Not included in the price:
Personal expenditures like drinks, telephone calls and tips for tour guides and other personnel, and optional excursions.
